2 Things!

Okay, Woah...it's been a long time! First off...here's the reason I've not posted in a while...

I don't know if you've discovered this or not, but I give you fair warning...ADDICTION!

Secondly, I've mentioned before that I've been working on a book. So the other day I sent off the first draft to an online publisher (which is what I plan to go with). I want to be able to review it in book form so I can get a better feel before ordering up a million copies to sell to my mother. Going with an online publisher only gives you so many options with color, layout and whatnot. So here's the cover.

I'm pretty taken with it. I'm really liking how it turned out! Isn't it exciting?!?! I still have a lot of work to do...especially with editing and such...and a few chapters to finish and clean up. But I will get this done!

Any thoughts? You can click on the pic to enlarge it and read the back cover. I'd love some contructive criticism...really...I'm not THAT sensitive.

i LOVE it!!!
I cannot wait to read it.

The only question I have:
Is K-Love gonna (can they) sue you for using their name w/out permission? (I would think they would be dumb to try, but you know "those kind of Christians"... anything to make a buck)

I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy and read it!

My hubby have been burned badly...it has taken a lot of healing and a long journey back to even get involved in the church again!

LOVE IT! I can't wait to read it...sign me up for a copy...by the way, will there be a give away? I always WIN!!!

Congrats!

I meant to say 'hubby and I have been burned'...sorry!

By the way, Facebook...addicting! Have you started playing the games? Don't start...you'll never return to your family!! I love facebook!

i usually have facebook and blogger up at the same time! because i like to use my time wisely. ;)
have you seen all the matt bays out there....you are the one with the monster truck profile pic arent you?!
ok regarding book cover....love the pic, not so much the font. or the blue color on the spine. i think a book like this (a way cool book btw) needs a sweet font and not too many colors. love the red tho. but i only pretend to know what i'm talking about......

I totally need to find a "Facebook Anonymous" group...Hi, my name is Jen and I'm a Facebook addict.

I. Am. So. Excited. About. The. Book. Can't wait. I really like the front cover. The title is awesome. Not a big fan of the blue on the binding. And the pic is a little bright. I like the actual picture, I just think the coloring should be black and white or really toned down. I think you should go for something a little more gritty to match the front cover.

Man, I'd better be able to get one of the first copies.

I'm loving the ideas. Krista, - any font ideas? I really struggled trying to figure that out. I love the blue binding...probably very nerdy...but i'm considering all this. The bright picture. I'll think about that one too. Hmmm...

MATT!!! I want to reserve a signed copy of your book! Looking forward to it! I'm soooo very proud of you! Love you! xox

Oh, and Amy...we all have been...SOOOOOO the reason for one more book that helps to put some things in perspective. That really is my desire...to sort of "set the record straight" on some crap that is just WRONG. "Blue Like Jazz" by: Donald Miller did that for me.

I love the whole thing!!
I don't know a thing about the design of the book cover but I am anxiously awaiting the read. :)
I have friends that will love reading it too.
Sorry we missed you the other night...love the drop though....don't call ahead this will be much more fun. :) Although it may never happen w/out the call ahead. :)

love the book...envy that it is this far...(recognize envy as sin issue, no need to point that out...and its not extreme, just kinda there)

not loving the blue on the binding either...unless you do blue on the front as well...and font idea...not that I'm an expert...but I love reading stuff in like, old PICA style...it just feels hardy and real...solid..believable...but Krista rocks in this area...I'd take her advice!

Kewl about the K-Love thing... another (few) questions...
Do you have the print release (permission to use the photo's on the front & back of your book) the the pew & typewriter pics?
Do you really care deeply about the red & the blue? I personally LOVE that color of blue against the black & white- really pops... what about doing the blue on the front instead of red?
You know me & fonts- how crazy & snobby I am about them...
I wouldn't use something as delicate or "Agatha Christie". Because I haven't read the book yet, I can't give super great advice, but (a good lesson I learned from the senior you know who) I would use something a bit cleaner on the back, like Century Gothic/Bold (this is a sans-serif font), but not as plain as a Times New Roman (a serif font) or ANY of the Arial family.

Go HERE and have free fun. (if you have any issues, let me know)

One more thing- Any font you use on the front is going to need a bit of an oomph with the beveling, glow/shadowing. Don't know if you have a program to do that with- Adobe Photoshop is what I work with and it does a beautiful job.

Last, but most importantly-
you have to set your file to a CMYK color profile instead of RGB because mass printers only use CMYK profiles when they print. This is SO important because it could delay the printing process OR ultimately screw up your colors, because not all colors appear in the CMYK profile that appear in the RGB profile.
(any more questions on this- let me know)

Hope this helps...

This is great Matt.....how exciting I want to read this! The font I'm not sure about it but I love the blue on the black! I wish I could see it a lot of different ways your probably sick of trying to figure out what looks best. I don't like the red writing on the back but do like what it says! Love the typewriter image on the back behind your pic and the writing. I think I would make your picture not quit as bright at the top. I wish I was there how fun it would be just to hang out in the computer room and try all different things. Miss you guys! I'm glad your finally feeling somewhat better! I can't believe your book is this far already!!! Aren't you so excited! Just think you could be sitting in my den under the table in one of my blog pictures before to long!

I CAN'T WAIT!!! And if you want my 2 cents on the editing stuff, add an "and" or "or" to the last paragraph 'if you have been completely worn out by the church AND are' or 'OR are looking for ...

I'm just glad I get an autographed copy!!! ;o)

matt, i'm so proud of you and can't wait to read YOUR book!

i loved the buildup on the back cover but the last sentenced was a let down. it lacked confidence, a hidden disclaimer? don't sell yourself short. go for it!

I'm sure I'm not the first to point it out, but it's a pet peeve of mine and I notice it everytime...on the back there...a lot is 2 words.
And I also can't wait to read it!
Did you ever finish the book about the teen girl? I was really looking forward to that one too!

So exciting! Are you still writing the one about the junior high girl?

The photo is intense, more than shaved head Matt.

You know I'll read it!

Matt, this is so cool. Looks really good. Definitely go bolder (in terms of words) in the last paragraph on the back cover.

We definitely need to talk more about this next time I see ya. Sweet.

Mechanical errors! Mechanical errors!

First paragraph: "...is true for alot of people..." A lot is two separate words!

Third paragraph: "It's" should be "its"....

There are more but I don't have the desire to continue. I got distracted!
