Addiction

Not sure how I came across this, but about 3 months ago I ran into a video on You Tube. It's a dance from the show "So You Think You Can Dance" which I had never watched... not once.

I can tell you that I love art... that I love dance and a myriad of other art forms, but this dance did something to me. I've showed it to a couple people (some who got it, some who thought she was scantilly clad and didn't get it.) In 3 months, I'm sure I've watched this dance at least 50 times. Can't say I love it... it's something more than that. It's meaningful. It brought me to tears. When art transcends language, takes you some place spiritual, makes your heart burn in your chest... well, I think that's important. Let's you know that something heavenly is going on.

I'm pretty sure there are going to be dances like this in heaven... dances that remind us of what we have flown away from; that remind us we were once broken... addicted... but not anymore.
I'll leave it at that. Hope you love it as much as I did.

This is exactly why I watch So You think You can dance. It's about beauty and language and art and we see about a handful of routines like this per year. Same year there was one about breast cancer that takes your breathe away. The choreographers on that show are simply incredible and it's amazing to watch the dancers be transformed into artists over the season.

I saw that when it happened... yeah... that one was better than most for sure and it did do what it was supposed to do... it took you right into the heart of addiction and the whole battle and all! Love it!

Might there be some grace for those of us who do, on one level, "get it," but for whom the sight of said "scantily clad" women only reminds us of the havoc such images have wreaked on our marriages, and is therefore too painful to watch? Or for the man who is trying to overcome his own addictions and watching something like this, powerful and moving as it is, only leads his thought life down roads he is trying desperately to avoid? I appreciate your heart, just please don't assume those who don't "get it" are all thinking with knee-jerk legalistic Christianity. Thanks for sharing, Matt.

Like I said before, I sure enjoyed that piece and I WAS moved by it and I certainly do GET IT. I am a new blogger, but one thing I love is that I can write about whatever I want and share whatever I want... but I guess it's everyone else's right to comment on it then too. But seriously... if you anonymously comment on something at least make it understandable.
As a recoverer, I get it, but I am not sure I get what you were trying to convey.
Confused,
DC

Man, I could do a whole post on anonymous's comment. I get what you're saying... cause I'm broken... and recovering. The whole sex thing though... I feel like it's such a bummer that's it's turned into what it has, leaving beautiful things such as art (and this dance) as a lure to people who have struggled or are struggling with the porn thing. This not my battle (but other things are... so I get it.)

I realize that not everyone will understand or be moved by a performance like this dance. Some because it's just not their thing... and others because it is somehow taking them to a bad place, as you mentioned... and I sympathize with that. But there are always those people who ruin good things in the name of God, when these things are not, of themselves, ungodly. (That's what I was referring to.) And this is always a bummer to me.

But seriously, it's a blog... opinions climb out of the wood work on these things. I thought I was more offensive with nub lady. ;)

Peace love and Merry Christmas!

Inch Microsoft along with Sony will certainly equally release the actual Xbox live One particular along with PlayStation Several afterwards within 2013, 12 months right after Developers launched the Wii Oughout. Pachter believes having less third-party publisher support will even help with Manufacturers being unable to offer the Nintendo wii Ough to some store bought target audience. The publishers are generally pretty enthusiastic about supporting your Xbox 360 system 1 and also the PS4. They really did not say anything at all [during E3 2013] concerning the Wii You. During E3 2013 Nintendo's creative designers unveiled it's collection regarding first-party Nintendo computer software for your on its way a few months, including Super Mario Three dimensional World, Mario Kart 8, as well as the Story involving Zelda: Breeze Waker High definition.
