The name's Matt E-Bays

I won. I WON!

I won my first ebay purchase ever!!! Pretty dang exciting. I increased my maximum bid the last 90 seconds. My heart was racing as I stared at the screen, counting down backwards..."10...9...8..." like the Apollo was about to blast off from Cape Canaveral.

So here she is. What do you think?

I know what you're thinking and you're right... my church is seriously about to ROCK and they don't even know it.

I've put it off far too long - it's time to get the accordian back into rock rotation. Nobody puts Cordy in the corner.

Okay, so I'm gonna need a name for this delicious bass. Anyone ideas?

Frankie. Oh wait...that'd be if we were relaxing with this spiffy instrument. Since it's ridiculous, let's go with Derek Zoolander. :)

I was actually in the market for one of these awhile back and never pulled the trigger! I'm coveting...believe it or not. ;-)

Sweet! Are we going to get to play some Creole, Cajun or Zydeco? I just hope I'm playing that weekend. We'll rock it! How about "Bye Bye Boozoo" by Beausoleil? Check it out on iTunes! In fact, check your email. I'll gift it to you. =)

Tish says all she can think of is polka and lederhosen. Yikes!

Congrats Matt, can't wait to hear it rocked out on stage.

First off, love the Dirty Dancing reference.

Second, for some reason when I think about an accordian I think "Mr Bojangles". I have no idea why! So, in the spirit of naming your new purchase, I'm throwing in "Mr Bojangles"!

As in "I'm gonna rock me out some sweet music on Mr Bojangles tonight".

Or how about this: "Dear church, this is Mr Bojangles, and tonight, you will be rocked."

or lastly, "My new friend Mr Bojangles and I will now commence rocking."

Now, I'm spent and off to bed.

I might even "stand to my feet" for that one... could you bring the soon to be named baby out the weekend after Thanksgiving? I would love to see it :-)

An accordion eh? It looks really nice- very pretty. My dad & grandma were national accordion playing competitors in their "hay-day".
I've always thought of them as girls for some reason- weird, right? I would name mine Beatrice- probably because my Grandma would always play Flight of the Bumble Bee for me when I was a little girl... I had forgotten about that.
Are you going to learn how to play it?

oh, for sure. I'm not going to be an expert (no fotbb for me) but I'm gonna give it a go. Mr. Bojangles smells like smoke. I think he's into filterless. Such a rebel.

Filterless... man, that's harsh! LOL I'm not surprised he likes to smoke though... typical from most accordions.

It's not too hard to pick up & play- it just takes a crazy amount of coordination. The buttons are like your bass notes and root chords- when you open the bellows and let it breath, you can even play it just using the buttons, and the keys are self explanatory, but can also just be used for the melody since the using the buttons will fill in the rest.
I think the 2 white buttons are octave changes for the keys, but maybe not- I don't remember. Soooo long ago.
Moisture is really bad for them though- dry him out good.

He is really handsome... good luck learning how to make him sing!

Lily,

I pulled him out today and worked with him. There are a thousand buttons and of course I aim to play him next weekend. I got the keys thing...no problem. But those buttons AND the coordination. Every time I change the directions of the bellows for more air flow, I'm inclined to move my fingers on the keys. Really gotta keep that right hand separate. The two white buttons are octave changes btw... you were right. And lastly, since there is no sustain, you have to use inversions of chords alot, so as not to move too many fingers off of notes, so I should get a little better at inversions.
